Dr Amelia (Mia) Hassoun

// اميليا حسون

Digital & Medical Anthropologist

I am a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) at Darwin College, University of Cambridge and the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy, where I study the sociopolitical effects of emerging technologies. My work focuses on how marginalized people resist, imagine and enact technologically-mediated futures in conditions of extreme constraint (like ubiquitous state surveillance).

I'm an expert in ethnographic methods, qualitative data analysis, and human-computer interaction research. In the past decade, I've led a range of academic and policy projects. I am a Visiting Faculty Research Scientist at Google, pushing for digital-safety design for at-risk users. I also run Digital Argonaut

Outside of research, I head coach the Cambridge University Women's Basketball team and play in England's National Basketball League.
